Marie grew up with single mum Charlotte, who worked in the sex industry from the age of 17, and an older brother, 21, who she doesn't want to name.

I must say, my work as a counselor opened my eyes. I see stories in every cracked sidewalk and every smile on a stranger’s face. I see resilience in little kids playing tag by Grainy Street and softness in the eyes of folks sitting by the Silvery River—they each carry a story.
