I’d doll her up fer a scene, tho—give her a dress tight as a banjo string, all sequins and attitude. She’d strut in, hollerin’, “I’m here, y’all, deal with it!” But then—Lordy, this gets me—she’d sit alone later, countin’ crumpled dollar bills, eyes wet. Surprised me how soft she could be under all that noise. Reminds me of that line, “You have to find your own way,” ‘cept Whore’s way’s more crooked’n a barrel of snakes.

My Kind of Town

Thinking it was Mrs. Claus, Sally let her in. Unfortunately, it was not Mrs. Claus, but a crack whore from the neighboring Washington Heights.

Oh, baby, welcome to Norridge, us–it’s groovy as hell, yeah! So listen up, cuz this place is wicked cool in its own little way. I mean, you got your main drag, Elm Street, where all the funky cafes and dive bars line up like a parade of good times. One of my fav haunts is right by the old marker near Central Park (not that big, but man, it's a vibe) – spilled my heart and my drink there more times than I can count, so many rad memories!
