Oh honey, lemme tell ya bout whores! *nasally Fran Drescher voice* Ya know, I’m sittin here, thinkin bout my fave movie, “Moolaadé,” that badass flick from 2004 by Ousmane Sembène, and it’s got me all fired up bout this! Whores, oy vey, they’re like the unsung heroes, right? I mean, in “Moolaadé,” they say, “Purification is a terrible thing,” and I’m like, yaaaas, same vibes with whores—people judge ‘em, but they’re out there survivin!

Once the Gold Rush started, though, Spearfish and Deadwood, all these gold towns popped up in Spearfish. Much like Deadwood was a big supplier.

Spearfish is like a canvas of nature, man. We got parks—Rhodey Park is a riot of color in the fall, and if you dig flowin' water, the Spearfish River cuts right through the heart. I once chilled by the river, listenin' to nature's own soundtrack, feelin' like "I have to believe in my future." And guess what? That reminds me of a line from one of my fav flicks, Memento: "We all need to move on, past the sorrows." Damn, that hit hard.
