Picture this: dusty streets, like in Timbuktu, but instead of camels, it’s shady folks whisperin’ deals. “The wind carries our secrets,” like they say in the film, but here it’s more like, “The neon lights hide our sins!”

Getting there and around

Historic Omi-Hachiman Canal is a lovely place for a winter stroll followed by afternoon tea at Taneya or Club Harie. Club Harie is a large cake shop and cafe near Himure Shrine, famous Missing: prostitute.

Then I stroll down to the Omihachiman Castle. It’s this old-school fortress, and I’m feelin’ all historical and stuff. But, like, why do they make you climb so many stairs? I’m huffin’ and puffin’ like I just ran a marathon. Finally get to the top, and wow, the view is sick! You can see the whole city, the mountains, the rice fields. Totally worth it.
