Where Was Minamata Filmed?

Benoît Delhomme has just finished shooting Andrew Levitas's Minamata in which Johnny Depp plays photographer Eugene Smith who spent four years.

First off, I hit up the Minamata Bay. It’s beautiful, right? But then I see this sign about mercury pollution. Like, seriously? I’m tryna enjoy the view, and here’s this heavy reminder of the past. Ugh! It’s like a punch in the gut. I mean, c’mon, can’t we just chill by the water without the dark history looming over us?
